Willkommen in Berlin. Die Kuratoren stellen sich und die vier Themenbereiche vor: Stadtentwicklung, Gesundheit/ Safer Nightlife, Kultur der Nacht, Ökonomie der Nacht. Nach der Einführung in das Themenfeld der NIGHTS 2016 – STADT NACH ACHT interviewt der Popjournalist und Autor Jens Balzer Nightlife-Aktivist/innen aus verschiedenen Ecken der Welt zur Bedeutung und den Herausforderungen der Nacht. Anschließend gibt Prof. Dietrich Henckel (TU Berlin) eine Übersicht über die Entwicklung der Nightlife-Städte in Europa, mit einem speziellen Fokus auf die Nacht-Ökonomie.

Welcome to Berlin, the conference board will present the four topics Economy, Health, Culture and Urban Planning. After the introduction of the NIGHTS – STADT NACH ACHT – 2016 – BERLIN conference main topics, three nightlife activists, from different parts of the world, will be interviewed by Jens Balzer, a well-known music journalist from Berlin. At the end of the opening panel, Prof. Henkel will give an overview about the growth of nightlife cities in Europe, with a special focus on night time economies.

Diplom-Politologe,von 2004 bis 2010 betrieb er den Berliner Club RAW.tempel (jetzt: Weißer Hase) sowie die Kleinkunstbühne Ambulatorium. Er war jahrelang aktiv als Verhandler zwischen Bezirk, Eigentümer und Nutzern auf dem RAW-Gelände. Daneben organisierte er die weltweit erste Veranstaltungsreihe für GEMA- bzw. lizenzfreie Musik netlag und war Veranstalter der Netaudio-Festivals in Berlin. Seit 2012 Mitglied der alternativen Verwertungsgesellschaft c3s. Von 2008-2014 veranstaltete er die wöchentlichen Elektronik-Reihe Dienstagswelt, daneben auch zahlreiche Konzerte, Mini-Festivals u.a. Ebenso war er Wagenbetreiber auf der Fuckparade sowie dem Zug der Liebe. Seit 2009 ist er im Vorstand derClubcommission, seit 2014 Leiter der Geschäftsstelle. Von 2013/2014 entwickelte er für die Livekomm zusammen mit dem Fixpunkt e.V. das Schulungsprogramm BEST zur Steigerung der Drogenkompetenz bei Mitarbeitenden im Nachtleben. Das von Bundesministerium für Gesundheit geförderte Projekt wird 2016 unter seiner Beteiligung fortgeführt.

Host of the lecture

Member of the board of Clubcommission. ‘Nights – Stadt nach Acht’ co-initiator. Marc studied World Heritage Management with special interest in Historic Urban Landscape and Marine World Heritage (M.A.). With his company Steinland Consult he works as a culture manager and public relation/ funding specialist in festival/ conference organisation (BerlinBeta, Go4BioDiv 2010) and film acquisition. For 10 years he was the owner and publisher of FLYER city magazine with offices in Germany, Japan and USA. In 2000 he was a co-founder and press-speaker of Clubcommission, where his special focus lies on urban development, noise emission and (drug) policy issues. He works on international projects with Berlin Music Commission (e.g. Japan, Greece, Mexico) and is a member of the advisory board of Musicboard Berlin.

Wolfgang Sterneck connects ‘Music, Mind and Politics’ practically in the sense of cultural projects and critical social activism, but also theoretically in several publications, teachings and research. He is co-organizer of numerous projects and events like the Cybertribe-Visions (Online Archives), the Gathering of the Tribes (International Festival), KomistA (Label and Publishing) and Reclaim the Streets (Socio-cultural Activism), Sonics Network and many more. He is co-founder of th „Alice“ Project and one of the curators and co-organizors of this conference.

Works as planning consultant focused on issues in the field of nightlife, night-time economy and urban development. Author of the study »stadtnachacht – managing urban night-time economy« commissioned by the German Federal Institute for Urban Affairs, Curator of this conference. Lectureship for city and urban planning, at HafenCity Universität Hamburg and the Academy für Applied Science and Arts at Hildesheim, Holzminden and Göttingen.

Steven Rasp

Arts Advocate & Community Events Producer

Steven Raspa is an artist, arts advocate, pacifist, prankster, community organizer and long-time community events producer for Burning Man. With 25 years of event production experience, he has worked with numerous cultural organizations and museums. In addition to organizing gatherings for Burning Man, he supports and nurtures Burner communities around the world with their official Regional Events. He is a founding member of the Burning Man Regional Network Committee and has first-hand experience supporting a growing, and globally dispersed community of artists and freethinkers. Steven Raspa is a poet, sculptor, installation artist and living work of art. His present medium of choice is “social reality”.
